What’s your excuse? Legitimate or Not...

Being around track & field for over 20 plus years, you would think that I have heard every conceivable excuse there is to here. Wrong, I continue to here excuses and alibis that just makes me shake my head in disbelief. Some of these are humorous, some are not, some are real and serious and some are just plain funny. We have all experience many of these. However, it is definitely in the athlete’s best interest not to have to use any of these and if they do, at least keep them to a minimum over the course of a season, as consistent training is your best ally:

The wind was too strong                               

It was too hot                                                 

It was freezing

There was too much snow to run fast

The air quality was awful

I couldn’t breath well

There was a dust storm

I could see well in the dust storm

It was raining

I am sore

I thought I was going to die

I thought I was going to throw up

I didn’t eat before hand

I was hungry

I felt too full

I felt like I had to go to the bathroom

I’m having boyfriend/girlfriend troubles

Haven’t eaten all day

I didn’t have time to warm-up

Didn't want to lead for fear of taking wrong turn

There wasn’t any medals, not worth the effort
